FOSS
Freedom Matters!
I heard about "FREE AND OPEN SOFTWARE " for the ever first time in my life in my tenth standard I.T. text book.Later I have seen the same thing many places and obviously on different instances:)Yet,I ever never think that I'm going to be a part of it!
Yes!From the last two-three weeks I'm behind FOSS .
From the moment in which I got the confirmation mail from ICFOSS ensuring participation in their WOMEN HACKATHON 2016.
| A Snap from the event. |
Thanks to them:)
That was a wonderful event (obviously my first hackathon ) and I really explored a lot of things.
Literally,it's difficult to express...
Let me say,I heard more about FOSS : it's importance in present scenario, need for freedom, gender equality in technical field...and so on!
Talking about FOSS and The Hackathon,
It was nice!
The priority they given to WOMEN is really appreciable!
Simply about FOSS :
It says Freedom matters!
Yes!The freedom to explore, manipulate and share the knowledge!
Knowledge is another thought provoking term I heard from there! I often know it's significance. But I never think about the way people treating it in present Tech-based century!
Yet,the matter is not different in software and associated fields too.The struggles of many people starting from Richard Stallman ....
The story of Aaron Swartz-"The Internets Own Boy" was really depressing and regretful.Film screening of "Sita sings the blues" was also good -a modern interpretation of epic Ramayana!
The most astonishing thing happened while the event was,I knew about OS installation(Which I never expected to happen in my life time).
We ,the participants were around 29 students from students all over the state. The most important thing...at the end we all became good fiends. Now we begin to share and inform the important events in our college or near by and inviting their participation...
The exposure we got regarding FOSS is really great...I strongly believe that it will definitely add a golden mark and the event was JUST a starter. An arena is kept open in front of us...and this will be a milestone in our career.
Thanks for the organizers of the Hackathon.
